Flexible Pipeline Protection due to Material Handling on Platform

An offshore platform has a new flexible pipeline tie-in, which exports gas from the central processing platform to the FPSO. Platform operators raised the concern on the vulnerability of the flexible pipeline towards the impact of dropped object from the material handling activities between the supply boat and the central processing platform.

Our Approach

PRISM uses the in-house Dropped Object tool to calculate the excursion of the dropped object from the identified drop point, gather the relevant historical dropped object information, and estimate the probability and frequency of hitting and damage of each section of the pipeline.
From there, the sections of the flexible pipeline that requires additional protection is determined based on the acceptance pipeline risk criteria.

1

Data collection

PRISM DOS tool’s interface allows for quick data input and historical data extraction

2

Calculation

Produces results and graphs to clearly illustrate the risk of pipeline.

3

Risk based findings

Delivers realistic pipeline protection recommendation and assist in engineering / design decision.
