Fire and Gas Mapping Study

Requirements for fire and gas detection corresponds to hazards present within a facility. The Fire and Gas Detection Mapping (FGDM) study in turn, is performed to verify adequacy and effectiveness of coverage provided by these fire and gas detectors
FGDM studies at PRISM are performed using a mapping software, based on a 3D structure to provide visualization of location and coverage of detectors within a geometry. PRISM have capabilities to perform both Geographic Coverage assessment and Scenario Coverage assessments in accordance to industry codes, standards and guidelines.

Our Approach

Prism’s approach to Fire and Gas Detection mapping starts with the definition of the geometry of the facility. The location of fire and gas detectors is defined within the geometric model. Properties of the detector’s field of view (FOV) such as the maximum range, off-axis degradation, and six different viewing angles can be specified. The Fire & Gas Detection model is then run to determine the level of coverage for the facility. These results are compared with the criteria to assess their acceptability. Optimization of the number and location of detectors can be performed automatically to maximise the effectiveness of the detection system.
